What it's all about???

Inspired by the courageous battle of cancer sufferers, Geoff Davidson and Paul
Batfay will walk from Parliament House in Canberra to the National Rugby League
(NRL) Grand Final in Sydney. All sponsorship and donations will be given to the
Cancer Council Australia.

Geoff and Paul are cousins who share a family history of cancer. Their losses
include their grandmother who died from cancer in 1992. They have had enough
and want cancer stopped sooner rather than later.

Let's make a difference and accelerate an end to the family tragedy that affects
too many people, too young and with too much life left to live.  Let's stop the life
time loss when a parent loses a child to cancer.  Let's stop the premature death
that robs parents of the chance to know their grandchildren.

The Davidson and Batfay families have a long association with Rugby League.

Geoff and Paul could think of nothing better than to combine their passion for
Rugby League with their desire to make a difference.

Whilst organising the walk, Geoff was told an inspiring tale by his mother. The tale
may be enough to inspire others to make a difference -

Make a Difference - The Starfish Story

Once a man was walking along a beach. Off in the distance he could see a person
going back and forth between the surf's edge and the beach. As the man
approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the
sand.

The man was stuck by the apparent futility of the task. Many of them were sure to
perish. As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one
by one and throwing them into the surf.

As he came up to the person he said, "You must be crazy. There are thousands of
miles of beach covered with starfish. You can't possibly make a difference." The
person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish
and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said, "It sure
made a difference to that one!"

takings were donated to charity.

This is a culture that has stayed
with the game for 100 years.
